God's Expectations for a Committed Senior

”Growing in Grace they shall bring forth fruit in their old age.”
Psalms 92:14 AMP

by Amelia M. Hughes (Senior)

God has a plan for all our lives, and as a Senior, we bear special responsibility for making an impact in the lives of our families, churches, and friends. Because of the senior status in life, Seniors are sometimes looked to as a guide, mentor and even as an advisor; therefore, Seniors must always be careful to seek God in prayer, making sure that we are following God’s will for our lives in order to be a Godly witness and to impart into the lives of others.

God gives us a choice; He does not force His will upon us. To the contrary, God has given the Senior (like everyone else) free will to follow His commandments. When the Senior (like everyone else) forgets those commandments (e.g. I Tim 6:11, pursuing righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness), or chooses not to follow them, they invite the unpleasant consequences of loneliness, bitterness and depression into their lives.

When Seniors are obedient to the Word of God and concentrate on what God has to say, and not what the world says; when Seniors honestly and humbly seek God’s will of being an effective witness into the lives of others, God will touch their heart and the Holy Spirit will lead and guide them to the path of God’s choosing.

When Seniors give their lives to God completely without compromising, God will give them wisdom and strength to meet any challenge; enable them to face any adversity. He will teach the Senior to live in God’s righteousness and peace, and be the Senior that God can use to deposit into the lives of others with His love and wisdom.  Just because a Senior has retired and may have gray in their hair, does not mean that God no longer has a purpose for them.  Look at Moses, he was eighty (80) years old when he started his ministry.  He had to persevere and be an example for his people. Seniors, when you look at your life and wonder what difference you can make, remember always to seek to do His will, and remember the power of prayer.

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” (Matthew 21:22)

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.  (John 15:7)
